Second Nine Weeks Reflection
For the second nine weeks, we were assigned two projects: The Pumpkin Carving and The Walking Dead Poster. Both projects required the manipulation of several images to produce a bigger composition of the images. The instructions for each project seemed very thorough so I was sure I would do well with both and that I will learn more about photo-manipulation techniques through the experience. If I needed additional help or had a question that could not be answered through the instructions, I would turn to whoever is sitting next to me and ask. And if they didn’t know then the teacher would be the one to ask for help. The first thing that had to be done for the projects was to brainstorm and come up with ideas for the project. Afterward, we had to create a storyboard as a preview of what the finished product should look like. This would act as a reference to make sure the project was being done as planned. Creating these projects was simple and I did not need to follow along with the teacher much. After finishing, I evaluated and reflected on the product and uploaded them to my portfolio. Both assignments were not terribly difficult and I was satisfied with the results as they were very similar to what I had expected to look like.
The Walking Dead Poster
To make this project, I researched images to use in this poster and resized them as well as change the blending options for them to make them blend better in the scene. The cars and bus were carefully selected out of their background and skewed so they look like they go off to vanish in the distance. I used different brushes to make some of the glass seem shattered and to make it look like birds are in the background. Afterwards, I added text to the road and made it look worn and mildly erased and I also skewed it so it looked like it was on the road. I added a
Pumpkin Carving
To make this project I took an image of a wide pumpkin and resized it to fit the canvas. I changed its color using the hue/saturation settings and colorizing the body of the pumpkin as well as the stem. Afterwards, I drew the face of the pumpkin carving using the pen tool and stroked the path with a black brush. I selected and filled the pumpkin's face with black and added a gradient and pattern to give it depth as if it were cut out. I filled the selection into a layer mask and I placed a candle "inside" the pumpkin. I drew some more line in the pumpkin's face to make it look 3D. I selected the interior regions and darkened them so they have a shadow. I added some light and dark details by using a small brush and the smudge tool around the edges
